A week dedicated to financial education all over Europe. The first European Money Week (EMW) was launched on 9-13 March 2015. The EMW is primarily focused on the education of the younger generation. It aims at raising awareness on the importance of financial education in Europe and promote national best practices.

The first EMW was successful and a second event was repeated on 14-18 March 2016. The week consists of a series of events both in the participating countries and at the center of the Europe in Brussels..

According to Wim Mijs, Chief Executive of the European Banking Federation “European Money Week lets us share successful national experiences in financial education in Europe”. “Many of our members in recent years have developed real expertise in financial education. Their projects can also inspire teachers, parents, bankers and young people in other European countries. More and more studies point to the benefits of educating young people on managing their money. For us it is clear that financial education can make an important contribution to a healthy economy.”

All national banking associations and members of the EBF across Europe participate in the European Money Week every year. The Association of Cyprus Banks participated for the first time in 2016.

The website of EMW discloses information on national good practices in all participating countries. The European Banking Federation plans to make the EMW a yearly event and expects that it will progress even further over the years.
