Established in 1969, the Association has been acting as the liaison body on behalf of banks in Cyprus. In 1999, the ACB went through a restructuring process and became the formal voice of the local banking sector. Within this frame, a platform was established for industry issues to be analyzed and common strategies to be defined.
In 2000, the ACB was registered under the Cyprus company law as a non-profit organization and a constitution has been drafted reflecting the rights and obligations of both the ACB and its members. Since year 2000, the ACB has been acting according to its constitutional requirements for the benefit of its member banks and the domestic banking industry. Over the years the ACB’s role as the representative of the banking system was strengthened and it became the leading voice of the banking sector in Cyprus.
